Al-Qasim Sport Club (Arabic:نادي القاسم الرياضي) is anIraqi football club based inAl-Qasim City,Babil, that competes in theIraq Stars League.
Al-Qasim Club was founded in 1973 by a group of young athletes. The team have been in theIraqi First Division League for many years and have not been able to qualify for thePremier League due to lack of financial support and lack of a good stadium.[1]
In the2015–16 season, the team strengthened their ranks with good players[2] and was about to qualify for the Premier League, but finished second behindAl-Bahri in Elite Stage, and Al-Bahri qualified.[3] As well as in the2017–18 season, but they finished second behindErbil in Final stage, and Erbil qualified.[4]
Al-Qasim won the2018–19 Iraqi First Division League title after defeatingZakho in the final penalty shootout 4–1, after the match with a draw in the full time.[5] As a result, they were promoted to the2019–20 Iraqi Premier League for first time,[6] and choseAl Kifl Stadium as their home stadium for their Premier League matches.[7]
