al-Jamel (Arabic:الجامل,romanized: ash-Shāmil;Turkish:Çemilli orÇamıl), alternatively spelledShamil, is a village in northernAleppo Governorate, northernSyria. Situated on the Jarabulus Plain's wetlands towards riverEuphrates, the village is located 4 km (2.5 mi) to the south ofJarabulus, and about 5 km (3.1 mi) south of theborder to the Turkish province ofGaziantep. It is inhabited byTurkmen of theBarak tribe.[2][3]
With 2,091 inhabitants, as per the 2004 census, al-Jamel administratively belongs toNahiya Jarabulus withinJarabulus District.[1] Nearby localities includeMarma al-Hajar 2 km (1.2 mi) to the northwest, andAmarnah 3 km (1.9 mi) to the south.
