Alípio Duarte Brandão (born 7 June 1992), known simply asAlípio, is a Brazilianfootballer who plays as anattacking midfielder.

Early years

Born inBrasília,Distrito Federal, Alípio leftBrazil at the age of 14. Anorphan, he moved toPortugal with his legal guardian Helber Damião, co-owner of the football schoolDois Toques.

His first footballing rights were split between Damião, his original club in his homeland,Sport Club Internacional, and the team to where he moved,Rio Ave FC.[1]

Club career

In November 2008, Alípio joinedReal Madrid for roughly €1.4 million, without having made one single first-team appearance with Rio Ave.[2] He scored two goals on his debut forthe C-team which operated inTercera División,[3] and played his second game againstCF Rayo Majadahonda in a 2–0 home win, as they eventuallyfinished in eighth position;[4] he played most of his first two years, however, with theJuvenil side.[5]

After scoring in a training match against the Real Madrid first team on 11 February 2009,[6] Alípio made his official debut forReal Madrid Castilla four days later, againstÁguilas CF, as an 87th-minutesubstitute forMiguel Palanca. Thus, he became the youngest player ever to appear forthe reserves;[7] during the ten minutes he played, he impressed spectators and his coaches alike with his ball skills.[8]

In the2010–11 season, aged 18, Alípio returned to Portugal, being sold toS.L. Benfica and signing a five-year contract with thePrimeira Liga club.[9] In his first year inLisbon he played for theunder-19s but, late into it, was loaned toSérie C teamAmérica Futebol Clube (RN).[10]

Alípio returned to Benfica shortly after due to bureaucratic problems and was again loaned, now toAl-Sharjah SCC in theUAE Arabian Gulf League.[11] After two years away from professional football he went on trial withAC Omonia, who later signed him to a permanent deal;[12] he made his debut for his new club on 23 October, againstNikos & Sokratis Erimis forthe campaign'sCypriot Cup. Three days later he first appeared in theFirst Division, coming from the bench to provide twoassists in the 6–0 away routing ofDoxa Katokopias FC.

Personal life

Alípio idolizedRonaldo while he was growing up. His compatriot also played professionally for Real Madrid, winning the2002 FIFA World Cup withBrazil.[13]
