Ajoy Kumar Dutta is an Indian social worker from the northeastern Indian state ofAssam.[1] He is aGuwahati-based activist associated with severalnon governmental organizations working in the state.[2] A former municipal councillor at theGuwahati Municipal Corporation, he successfully contested theAssam Legislative Assembly elections of 1978 as aJanata Party candidate[3] defeating Nandeshwar Talukdar of theCommunist Party of India by polling close to 34 percent of the total votes polled,[4] and represented theGuwahati East constituency in the Assembly.[5] In 2016, the Government of India awarded him thePadma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian honour, for his contributions to society.[6]
