Historically, aJapanese[1] orSoviet air army was a largemilitary formation, comprising severalcorps ordivisions, in the aviation forces of theSoviet Union and theJapanese Empire before and duringSecond World War. In the Soviet Union,the term remained in use after the war. Throughout most of thePacific War, theImperial Japanese Army Air Service was organized into four Air Armies, with two more added in the final stages of the war.[1]
