Aguaí is a Brazilianmunicipality located in the eastern part of the state ofSão Paulo. The population is 36,648 (2020 est.) in an area of 475 square kilometres (183 sq mi).[2] The settlementCascavel was established in 1887 near a railway station. In 1944, when it was separated fromSão João da Boa Vista, it became an independent municipality with the nameAguaí.[3]
The municipality was created by state law in 1944.[4]

In telecommunications, the city was served byCompanhia Telefônica Brasileira until 1973, when it began to be served byTelecomunicações de São Paulo.[8] In July 1998, this company was acquired by Telefónica, which adopted theVivo brand in 2012.[9]
The company is currently an operator of cell phones, fixed lines, internet (fiber optics/4G) and television (satellite and cable).[9]
