On January 2, 2019,Adventist Health System rebranded its facilities under the trade nameAdventHealth.[20] The rebranding excluded certain facilities in Colorado, Illinois and Texas that were operated throughjoint ventures.[21]
In March 2022, AdventHealth became the first hospital network to receive the Emerald Award from theLeapfrog Group, recognizing achievements in health care quality and safety.[22] On September 1, 2022, the organization announced the development of a new rapid diagnostic test to quickly detectNaegleria fowleri, commonly referred to as a brain-eatingamoebas.[23][24] In November 2024, AdventHealth was ranked first onGartner's Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 list, marking its first time achieving the top position.[25][26][27]
On February 15, 1973, Southern Adventist Health and Hospital Systems, Inc. was founded at Florida Hospital Orlando. The organization unified nine hospitals across the Southern Union Conference, bringing together facilities that had operated independently for decades.[28] The system later adopted the name Adventist Health System Sunbelt Healthcare Corporation.[29] On December 26, 1979, the system applied for the trade name Adventist Health System.[11]
In late May 1999, Adventist Health System withdrew from negotiations to purchase three hospitals in theTampa Bay area fromTenet Healthcare. The decision followed disagreement over valuation, with Tenet reportedly seeking between $200 to $250 million for the facilities.[30]
Mardian J. Blair served as president and chief executive officer of Adventist Health System from 1984 until his retirement on January 1, 2000.[31][32] He was succeeded by Thomas L. Werner, who had been selected for the role in August 1999.[33]
In early November 2005, Thomas L. Werner announced his retirement aspresident andCEO of Adventist Health System.[34][35][36] He was succeeded by Donald L. Jernigan, who was appointed to the position in late February 2006 and officially took office on March 1.[37][38]
During Jernigan's tenure, the organization relocated its corporate headquarters from Winter Park, Florida, to a new administrative campus in Altamonte Springs.[39][40] The first phase, a five-story office building, opened in 2011 and received a Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.[41] The second office building opened in 2013.[40]
In late July 2016, construction began on a five-story office building and a seven-story parking garage, the third office building opened in 2018.[40] Before moving to Altamonte Springs, Adventist Health System had its headquarters inWinter Park, Florida.[3][30] On August 18, Jernigan announced his retirement.[44][45][46] On December 7, Adventist Health Systemboard of directors chose Terry Shaw as president and CEO, he took office the same day.[47][48][49]
In late April 2017, Adventist Health System had chosen David Ottati to be CEO for its rearranged Central Florida Division - North Region.[50][51] He took office on May 1,[51][52] replacing Florida Hospital East Florida Region CEO Rob Fulbright who died of acardiac event at forty-seven.[52][53][54]
On August 14, 2018, Adventist Health System announced that it would berebranding its facilities to AdventHealth. Adventist Health System for two years had been working on rebranding, starting with acommittee to study the topic.[55][56][57][58]At the time of the announcement it had forty-six hospital campuses and 80,000 employees.[59]The name change will make it easier for patients using the hospital networks newmedical app, to schedule an appointment and to find a location.[60]
On January 2, 2019, itssubsidiariesFlorida Hospital,[55][61][62] Gordon Hospital,[63][64] Manchester Memorial Hospital,[65] Metroplex Health System,[66] Park Ridge Health[67][68] and Shawnee Mission Health[69][70] rebranded to AdventHealth. Except for its facilities in Colorado, Illinois and Texas that were part ofjoint ventures.[21] By rebranding it makes it easier for patients to make appointments and be treated at facilities across the United States.[13]On August 28, AdventHealth unveiled itscommand center which is named Mission Control. The 12,000 square foot (1,100 m2) command center was built for $20 million at AdventHealth Orlando's campus.GE Healthcare helped to build Mission Control, which is the largest command center and the second in Florida. Mission Control helps to keep track of the patients at AdventHealth's hospitals incentral Florida. It is operated by 50nurses,EMS,flight dispatchers, transport techs and other specialists. It will reduce a patients time in the ER and in a hospital bed.[71][72][73]
Beginning in 2020, AdventHealth in central Florida hired 10,000 nurses to fill a predicted future shortage. It created a Nursing Advisory Panel to get input from nurses, they told the hospital network that they wanted more money and to continue theireducation. As a result, AdventHealth wasinvesting a total of $140 million to improve the pay and education of its nurses.[74][75][76]
On January 6, 2021, AdventHealth announced that Daryl Tol president and CEO of AdventHealth Central Florida Division hadresigned.[77][78][79] On January 14, it had chosen Randy Haffner to be the new president and CEO of its Central Florida Division. He took office on February 1.[80][81][82] On August 19, AdventHealth announced that Mike Schultz president and CEO of AdventHealth West Florida Division would retire at the end of the year and that he would be replaced by David Ottati.[83][84][85]
In early March 2024, AdventHealth launched its AirStar 1helicopter to transport patients faster from its smaller hospitals to larger hospitals. Originally AdventHealth West Florida Division had relied on other companies for transporting patients. AirStar 1 will be based atLakeland Linder International Airport and it will serve both the West and Central Florida Divisions.[89][90][91]In late March, AdventHealth had chosen Rajan Wadhawan to be chief clinical officer for its West Florida Division. He took office on April 21.[92][93] In late June, AdventHealth had chosen Andrew Weinfeld to be chief clinical officer for its East Florida Division. He took office on July 8.[94][95]On December 13, AdventHealth announced that its president and CEO Terry Shaw would be retiring.[96][97][98]
On April 3, 2025, AdventHealth announced that it had chosen David Banks as president and CEO, he took office the same day.[99][100][101] On November 4, AdventHealth had chosen Todd Goodman aschief financial officer, he will take office February 1, 2026, replacing Paul Rathbun who will be retiring.[18][102]
On December 20, 2005,HCA Healthcare agreed to purchase from Adventist Health System Tennessee Christian Medical Center, an office building and a therapy center inMadison, Tennessee. As well as Tennessee Christian Medical Center Portland inPortland, Tennessee.[112] On March 31, 2006, HCA Healthcare acquired the properties for $19.7 million.[113]
On January 4, 2013, Buddy LaCour and investors purchased the vacant lot where Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial once stood for $2 million.[114][115]
On February 3, 2020, it was announced that AdventHealth would sell Central Texas Medical Center toChristus Health.[121][122] On April 1, it joined Christus Health and was rebranded as Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-San Marcos.[123][124]
In late May 2022, Ormond Holdings LLC/Blackstream Development LLC purchased the vacant lot whereFlorida Hospital Oceanside stood for $2.05 million.[125][126]
On June 12, 2023, AdventHealth officially left thenursing home market after it sold 8 facilities in Florida, one in Texas and one in Kansas, due to the high cost of operating the facilities.[127][128]
From 2011 to 2017, Adventist Health System received fromGallup the Gallup Great Workplace Award for creating an engaged workplace culture that drives business outcomes.[129][130][131]From 2013 to 2021, Adventist Health System and later AdventHealth, received from theCollege of Healthcare Information Management Executives the CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Award for meeting specific IT requirements in four focus areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.[132][133]In 2022, AdventHealth received Leapfrog Group's Emerald Award for the first time for outstanding achievement by a healthcare system.[134][135][136]
In 2024, for the very first time AdventHealth was named in first place byGartner in its Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 list,[137][138][139] and was named first place again in 2025.[140][141] In 2025, it was named in fifth place by Gartner in its Healthcare Supply Chain Top 10 list.[142][143]
In early September 2019, AdventHealth sent doctors, an architect and a construction manager toThe Bahamas to assess the nations hospitals after being hit byHurricane Dorian.[146][147] While there they choseRand Memorial Hospital inFreeport to help it rebuild, the hospital network created a page for people to donate money for the hospital.[148]
In late November 2025, the hospital network gave grants totally $2 million to 8 nonprofits in central Florida, that treatmental health issues and duejob training.[149][150]
In October 2002, Adventist Health System signed a six-year contract withCerner.[151] In early February 2020, AdventHealth announced that it was leaving Cerner and that it would implementEpic Systemselectronic health record system for 37 of its hospitals.[152][153][154] AdventHealth began changing over to Epic Systems in March, the new system will be powered with the cloud after partnering withVirtustream.[155] On February 3, 2024, the last AdventHealth hospital switched over to Epic Systems. All total the hospital network spent $660 million.[156]
In early February 2024, AdventHealth signed a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement with Scout Clean Energy for 90-megawatts of electricity from theirwind farm in Texas. The farm will provide the hospital network with 380,000 megawatt of electricity, this would supply about 40% of the electricity that they need. AdventHealth plans to achieve 100%renewable energy by 2026.[157][158][159] In late March, it hired ESA to install 7,500solar panels on its office buildings and parking garages. And they were also hired to addsolar canopies andcharging stations for the parking lots. The solar system will produce 4,200 megawatts of electricity and save AdventHealth $20 million over 20 years.[160][161]
On September 20, 2021, Neil Finkler thechief clinical officer of the AdventHealth Central Florida Division,[169][170] told theHouse Health & Human Services Committee that there was a shortage of nurses before theCOVID-19 pandemic. That many have left the profession altogether, or have accepted $10,000 to become traveling nurses in COVID-19 hot spots around the United States. To alleviate the problem, AdventHealth is requiring nurses to take on additional patients,[171][172][173] and looking for a way to get patients out of its hospitals.[169]
On January 4, 2021, AdventHealth Central Florida Division moved to "yellow status"[190] and two days later it moved to "red status".[191][192]On July 22, AdventHealth Central Florida Division moved to "yellow status".Elective surgeries were deferred, visitors were limited and everyone was required to wear amask.[193][194] On July 26, AdventHealth Central Florida Division moved to "red status". It began rescheduling non-emergency elective surgeries to increasecapacity.[195][196][197]On July 30, AdventHealth Central Florida Division willingly moved to "black status" and stopped doing elective surgeries.[198][199]On August 26, it was announced that themorgues at AdventHealth Central Florida Division were at capacity. To solve this problem 10 of its hospitals were using rentedcoolers. AdventHealth blamedfuneral homes for the backlog.[200][201][202] For a better fix to the problem the hospital network ordered 14 portable morgues which would hold 168cadavers.[203]On August 31, AdventHealth Central Florida Division announced that it would return to "red status" on September 1, which will allowoutpatient surgeries to resume.[204][205]On September 9, AdventHealth Central Florida Division moved to "yellow status" and resumed 85 percent to 90 percent of its operations. This will allow it toschedule new surgeries to maximize its capacity.[206][207] On September 15, AdventHealth Central Florida Division announced it would move to move to "green status" on September 16 and patients will no longer have their surgeries deferred or rescheduled.[208][209]
Later in early January 2022, the United States Supreme Court upheld thevaccine mandate.[216]On January 17, AdventHealth began restricting patients to one visitor a day at six hospitals in the Tampa Bay area.[217][218]
On September 1, 2022, it was announced thatphysicians at AdventHealth Central Florida Division developed a new five hour test for brain-eatingamoebas.[224][225] The test detects the three most common amoebas contracted from sources offreshwater. Before the new test thelaboratory specimens from hospitals were preserved and transported to theCenters for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.[226] The Smelski family who lost their son from a brain-eating amoeba worked with AdventHealth to develop the test.[224][226]

On May 6, 2021, AdventHealth was chosen byWalt Disney World to be its official health care provider and also its official virtual health care provider.[232][233]On the same day it was announced that AdventHealth was teaming up with Walt Disney World to offer anemergency room andprimary care facility on its campus. It will be 200,000 square foot (19,000 m2) and will be at the Western Gateway entrance atFlamingo Crossings.[234][235][236]
On January 13, 2022, Walt Disney World filed a permit for AdventHealth ER at Flamingo Crossings Town Center.[237]On March 8, AdventHealthbroke ground for AdventHealth ER at Flamingo Crossings Town Center to provideemergency care for guests andworkers at Walt Disney World. To celebrate the groundbreaking of AdventHealth ER at Flamingo Crossings Town Center wasMickey Mouse. There will be atime capsule telling the history of the partnership between AdventHealth and Walt Disney World.[238][239][240]On May 17, 2023, AdventHealth had a ribbon cutting ceremony for AdventHealth ER at Flamingo Crossings Town Center in Horizon West. To celebrate the grand opening of AdventHealth ER at Flamingo Crossings Town Center was Mickey Mouse andMinnie Mouse.[241][242]
On May 13, 2021, the Orlando Magic and AdventHealth teamed up to vaccinate fans atAmway Center, with theModerna vaccine.[246][247]On June 16, the Orlando Magic made design and constructioncontracts with 33 local companies for $17 million to build AdventHealth Training Center. These companies are part of Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises.[248][249][250]
On August 31, 2022, AdventHealth and the Orlando Magic opened the AdventHealth Training Center, which cost $70 million to build.[251][252] The 130,000 square foot (12,000 m2) building is locatedone block from Amway Center[253] AdventHealth's 33,300-square-foot medical hub treats athletes of all ages. Services offered to patients are orthopedics, primary care, sports medicine, imaging, rehabilitation and sports performance. Patients are able to see AdventHealth's gastroenterologists, cardiologists, sleep, psychology and nutritionexperts.[252]
In 2011, it was announced that Florida Hospital would be thesponsor and official health and wellness partner of theTampa Bay Lightning.[257]Since 2017, Florida Hospital (later AdventHealth) and the Tampa Bay Lightning have been giving awayteddy bears to fans atBenchmark International Arena. While another teddy bear is given to sickchildren with a note from a Tampa Bay Lightning fan.[258][259]
On June 24, 2021, AdventHealth and the Tampa Bay Lightning hosted theShots on Ice, also known as theTake a Shot at Amalie Arena. At the event fans had a choice of getting theJohnson & Johnson vaccine or thePfizer vaccine, they also took photographs with the mascot ThunderBug.[260][261][262] At the vaccination eventJill Biden andAnthony Fauci visited.[260][263]
In 2012, it was announced that Florida Hospital would be the exclusive hospital of theTampa Bay Buccaneers under a sponsorship agreement.[264][265] On August 27, 2018, Florida Hospital signed anaming rights deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For ten years the training facility of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be known as the AdventHealth Training Center.[266][267][268]
On October 30, 2014, it was announced that Florida Hospital had signed a 12-year partnership, and would become the official healthcare partner ofDaytona International Speedway replacingHalifax Health.[269][270] Halifax Health had been a partner with Daytona International Speedway since February 9, 2011.[271]Also on October 30, it was announced that Florida Hospital had become the second founding partner of Daytona Rising,[272][273] the first founding member wasToyota.[274]
On January 1, 2015, Florida Hospital became the sponsor of Daytona International Speedway.[269] At Daytona International Speedway, AdventHealth treats over 1,000 patients every year, at its two care centers and nine first aid stations.[275][276]
From 2016 to 2020, Florida Hospital and later AdventHealth sponsoredChip Ganassi Racing.[276][277] In October 2018, Adventist Health System bought one of the tracks injector entrances and rebranded and redesigned it for $1 million to $2 million[278][279][280] In early October 2018, Florida Hospital became the sponsor ofSpeedweeks.[281][282] In 2019 and 2021, AdventHealth sponsored Jamie McMurray who, came out of retirement to race at the Daytona 500.[283][284][285] At the 2021 Daytona 500 the Grand Marshal SUV, was signed by 3,000 AdventHealth workers.[286][287]
On December 11, 2021, AdventHealth, the NASCAR Foundation and ONE DAYTONA partnered to have children vaccination event at ONE DATONA across from Daytona International Speedway. After the children were vaccinated they were given avoucher to local businesses at ONE DAYTONA.[288][289]
On January 11, 2022, AdventHealth signed a multiyear sponsorship withTrackhouse Racing.[275][290]In February, AdventHealth became a sponsor ofKansas Speedway. They sponsor the May Cup Series race titled theAdventHealth 400. The tracks first aid stations and care center will have the colors of AdventHealth.[291]
On March 18, 2023, AdventHealth partnered withHailie Deegan to celebrate Women in NASCAR atAtlanta Motor Speedway. Instead of the AdventHealth logo her truck had on it Women in NASCAR. On the decklid of her truck it had the names of women in NASCAR andSara Christian the first woman in NASCAR had her name on the passenger side door.[292][293][294]On December 5, it was announced that AdventHealth would be sponsoringLegacy Motor Club during the2024 NASCAR Cup Series season.[295][296] It severed its sponsorship with Trackhouse Racing after they signed withBusch Beer, which crowded out AdventHealth who only wanted to be only a part-time sponsor.[297][298]
On February 13, 2024, AdventHealth extended its sponsorship of Speedweeks to 2028. And it received the naming rights tolactation rooms at the racetrack.[299][300]On February 15, AdventHealth partnered with Erik Jones and his foundation to donate a bookwormvending machine to Blue Lake Elementary School inDeLand, Florida. Also AdventHealth announced that it would donate $5,000 every year to keep it full ofbooks.[301][302][303]
In early February 2021, signed a six-year sponsorship of the KC Golf Classic with thePGA Tour, the tournament was later renamedAdventHealth Championship.[313][314] On May 14, 2024, the sponsorship of the tournament was extended to 2029.[315][316] In early April, AdventHealth purchased the tournament, replacing the previous ownerEventive Sports.[317][318]
In 1996, the joint ventureCentura Health was founded by Adventist Health System andCatholic Health Initiatives.[323] On February 14, 2023, Centura Health announced that it would split up.[324][325][326] On August 1, Centura Health split up with hospitals owned by AdventHealth in Colorado rebranding and those owned byCommonSpirit Health will rebrand at a later date.[327][328]
In February 2007, Adventist Health System and University Community Health formed a joint venture to build Wesley Chapel Medical Center.[329][330]
In 2012, Adventist Health System andTexas Health Resources created a joint venture company to own and operate Hugeley Memorial Medical Center.[331][332]
In late June 2014, Adventist Midwest Health a subsidiary of Adventist Health System, and Alexian Brothers Health System a subsidiary ofAscension Health, signed a letter to create a joint venture company. The nine hospital company would be the third-largest in Illinois.[333][334]On February 1, 2015, the joint ventureAMITA Health was created by Adventist Midwest Health and Alexian Health System.[335][336] On October 21, 2021, AMITA Health announced that it would split up.[337][338] On April 1, 2022, AMITA Health split up with hospitals owned by AdventHealth rebranding and those owned by Ascension rebranding.[339][340]
On January 12, 2017, it was announced that Florida Hospital would manage 15walk-in clinics insideWalgreens in the Tampa Bay area. They would officially be known as Florida Hospital Express Care at Walgreens.[341][342] After company wide rebranding they were renamed AdventHealth Express Care at Walgreens Locations.[343] Currently they go by the name AdventHealth Primary Care + at Walgreens.
On January 5, 2018, Adventist Health System purchased 6.39 acres inApopka, Florida for $450,000 and three days later they purchased 53 acres for $2.35 million in Apopka.[344][345] On March 29, 2021, AdventHealth announced that it was having adistribution center constructed in Apopka Commerce Center, to distributemedical supplies,mail andmedications to its facilities in Florida. It would also serve as anonline pharmacy to patients.[346][347] The AdventHealth Consolidated Service Center will be constructed in more than one phase, it will employ both AdventHealth andMedline Industries employees once completed.[348][349]On February 28, 2024, AdventHealth and Medline Industries announced the opening of the 375,000-square-foot warehouse.[350][351]On December 23, 2025, AdventHealth announced that it had purchased the distribution center for $84.25 million, the facility employs about 250 workers.[352][353]
In early April 2019, AdventHealth and Orlando Hand Surgery Associates signed a joint venture to create The Hand to Shoulder Center which will be on the campus of AdventHealth Orlando.[354][355]On April 26, AdventHealth announced a partnership with Helix agenomics company, to create aDNA study named WholeMe.[356][357] In late July, AdventHealth began to recruit 10,000 Florida residents to have there DNA studied with WholeMe.[356][357][358]
On June 17, 2019, AdventHealth andHealth First signed a partnership that will allow the hospital networks to share resources. In the deal AdventHealth would buy a minority interest in Health First.[359][360] In 2023, it hadpurchased $350 million interest in Health First.[361]On October 17,Enterprise Ireland signed a partnership agreement with AdventHealth at the Enterprise Ireland Med in Ireland 2019 Medical Technologies Conference. This will allow companies inIreland access to markets in the United States. This will allow AdventHealth to do business with companies formedical devices,diagnostics, healthcare services,software and information technology. It is looking for companies to improve outcomes, lower costs and improve quality care. AdventHealth will help Enterprise Ireland and its clients design and advertise newmedical technology, make joint ventures and to supply platforms for healthcare companies in the United States[362][363][364]
On September 22, 2020, AdventHealth announced a partnership withRothman Orthopaedics fromPhiladelphia to improve itsorthopedic services in Florida.[365][366][367] In February 2021, construction began on a new 12-story tall 300,000-square-foot, $100 million headquarters for Rothman Orthopaedics across from AdventHealth Orlando.[368][369][370] On December 16, AdventHealth Innovation Tower wastopped out during the night byBatson-Cook Construction, the tower is located byInterstate 4.[371][372] In last February 2022, AdventHealth announced a partnership with Orlando Neurosurgery, to improvebrain andspine services.[373][374] In late August 2022, the AdventHealth Innovation Tower opened.[375]
On November 23, 2020, AdventHealth announced that it was partnering withBerg Health to create a patient registrationbiobank using patient electronic medical records. Data scientists will be usingAI to treat AdventHealth patients with COVID-19 and reduce their mortality rate.[376][377][378] It was already using technology from Berg Health to treat patients withnonalcoholic fatty liver disease andsarcopenia.[377][378]
In May 2021,DispatchHealth announced a partnership with AdventHealth, to offer patients comfortable care in their own homes.[379] This partnership would allow AdventHealth, to offerin-home care to patients in Daytona Beach, Ocala, Orlando and the Kansas City metro area.[379][380] AdventHealth has been working with DispatchHealth for a few years in Tampa. Patients can receive care via phone, the DispatchHealth mobile app or website and AdventHealth's website and mobile app. They can be treated forviral infections,COPD,heart failure and more.[380][381][382]
In early October 2023, AdventHealth choseWellvana formNashville, Tennessee to be a partner for its AdventHealth Primary Care Network, and to help transition it to a value-based care for Medicare and Medicare Advantage patients in Florida.[390][391] Wellvana will be sending care coordinatorspharmacists andsocial workers to AdventHealth's clinics.[392] They will help patients get better access to healthcare workers, improve scheduling, care coordination, continued education, support on HEDIS, quality and risk adjustment.[392][393]In early September 2024, AdventHealth partnered withOurLegacy, by helping it open its first organ donation center in Orlando.[394][395]
In early June 2018, Volusia County Schools approved a $2 million, five-year partnership with Florida Hospital by a vote of 4–0.[396] This made Florida Hospital the Official Healthcare Champion of Volusia County Schools.[397] It will involve the renaming of fifteen health services academies and programs at theschool districts middle schools and high schools.[396] The students are being taughtbiomedical sciences,sport science andEmergency medical technician/paramedic classes for future jobs in the medical field.[397][398] As of a result of the partnership a meeting was held atDeltona High School, it was made up of mostly Halifax Health employees who were worried that theirbehavior therapy andmental health services would be restricted.[396]
On April 22, 2019, AdventHealth started donatingtablet computers andprinters to schools in Volusia County School District with the highest level of students being absent. The tablet computers have the hospital networks eCare app, which will allow sick students and their parents tovideo chat with a physician or a nurse. The first to receive a tablet computer was anelementary school inDaytona Beach, Florida. It is part of a first phase that will donate thirty-six printers and tablet computers to the school district.[399][400]
In late July 2024, the Volusia County School Board voted to extend its partnership with AdventHealth to June 30, 2028, by a vote of 3 to 0.[401] So far AdventHealth has provided 5,200 free sports physicals and 4,300 freecardiac screenings to students. The hospital network has also provided $12,000 of medical supplies.[401]
In late July 2021, AdventHealth and Flagler County Schools signed a 5-year partnership worth $750,000 making AdventHealth the Official Healthcare Champion of Flagler County Schools.[402][403] AdventHealth will treat students mental health and it will also provideathletic trainers forFlagler Palm Coast High School andMatanzas High School.[402][403] Theschool district will pay AdventHealth $150,000 over five years for the cost of their athletic trainers[403] and in return the hospital network will pay the school district $10,000 for five consecutive years.[402][403]
On August 30, 2019, AdventHealth was sued by Oviedo Medical Center fortrademark infringement, unfair competition andcybersquatting. Oviedo Medical Center believed that the name for AdventHealth's new ER would confuse the public, attorneys for AdventHealth disagree. The judge that heard the case dismissed it on technical grounds and Oviedo Medical Center was given the chance to refile by November 12. They did so before thedeadline.[414][415] On December 20, 2020, the lawsuit was settled with AdventHealth and its ER was renamed AdventHealth ER.[416]
On May 28, 2020, AdventHealth sued California attorney Michael Weiss and hislaw firm, it also sued Tomax Capital Management Inc. and its CEO Yehoram Efrati. They failed to deliver 10 millionN95 respirators to AdventHealth valued at $57.5 million. AdventHealth asked Michael Weiss to return the money, he returned only $55.5 million and told AdventHealth that Tomax Capital Management Inc. had the remaining $2 million. In their lawsuit AdventHealth claims that the defendants knew that the masks were not available andconspired to keep themoney.[417][418] On August 3, AdventHealth told a Florida federal judge that the fourdefendants agreed to commit fraud and that it causedinjury to AdventHealth in Florida giving thecourt authority over them. Michael Weis and his law firm asked the Florida federal judge to dismiss the claims that it is responsible for the $2 million.[419] On July 22, Michael Weiss and Tomax Capital Management Inc. CEO Yehoram Efrati told the Florida federal judge that they can not be sued, since they personally had no connection to the deal.[420] On October 13, Tomax Capital Management Inc. asked the Florida federal judge to dismiss the majority of the lawsuit, blaming Michael Weiss and his law firm.[421] On February 23, 2021, U.S. District Judge Paul Bryan denied the requests by the defendants to dismiss the lawsuit against them. On March 2, a Florida federal judge dismissed the lawsuits against Michael Weiss and his law firm, one day after they agreed to resolve the claims with AdventHealth.[422][423] On March 8, U.S. District Judge Paul Byron agreed to stay the case until October 12, when Tomax Capital Management Inc. and its CEO Yehoram Efrati would have to make final payments to AdventHealth under an agreement that was signed on March 3. On April 16, AdventHealth asked a Florida federal judge to award it $1.5 million, plus $10,573 ininterest and attorney fees after Tomax Capital Management Inc.defaulted on its first payment to AdventHealth.[424][425] On May 12, 2021, U.S. District Judge Paul Byron ruled in favor of AdventHealth after Tomax Capital Management Inc. and its CEO Yehoram Efrati failed to make its firstpayment of $300,000, to AdventHealth on April 12.[426]
In 1992,AdventHealth University was founded as Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences at Florida Hospital Orlando.[435] Its original campus is in Orlando,[436] a second campus in Denver[437] and a third in Tampa.[438]
In early November 2025, AdventHealth Medical Group opened a clinic inSt. Johns County, Florida, making it the first medical facility owned by AdventHealth in the county.[439][440][441]
On May 3, 1997, Hinsdale Health System inHinsdale, Illinoismerged with Adventist Health System.[442][443]On August 20, 1998, Adventist Health System announced that it was purchasing La Grange Memorial Hospital inLa Grange, Illinois from Columbia/HCA Healthcare.[444] The sale was completed in September.[445]
In late May 2000, Memorial Health Systems chose to merge with Adventist Health System. On October 1, Florida Hospital officially took over its hospitals inFlagler County andVolusia County.[446][447]On October 1, 2001, PorterCare Adventist Health System merged with Adventist Health System Sunbelt Healthcare Corporation after approval from theFederal Trade Commission.[29]On November 1, 2002, Shawnee Mission Medical Center inMerriam, Kansas split fromSaint Luke's Health System and joined Adventist Health System.[448][449]
In March 2010, Adventist Health System and University Community Health signed anon-binding letter to explore a merger.[329][450]On August 31, University Community Health merged with Adventist Health System after its president/CEO Norm Stein retired.[451] University Community Health owned hospitals in the counties of Hillsborough andPasco. Adventist Health System will make $125 million in capital improvements, donating $10 million to the UCH Foundation and will assume University Community Health'sliabilities.[452][453] The merger combined 43 hospitals, 37 from Adventist Health System and five from University Community Health.[451]
On December 5, 2017, Adventist Health System bought Bayfront Health Dade City inDade City, Florida fromCommunity Health Systems.[454][455][456] On April 1, 2018, Florida Hospital began to operate the hospital and it was renamed to Florida Hospital Dade City.[457][458]On April 18, Community Health Systems sold its forty-yearlease of Munroe Regional Medical Center inOcala, Florida to Adventist Health Systems.[459][460] On August 1, Adventist Health System acquired Munroe Regional Medical Center and its TimberRidge ER. Florida Hospital began to operate the hospital and renamed it to Florida Hospital Ocala.[461][462]
On May 22, 2019, AdventHealth bought Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center inDavenport, Florida and Lake Wales Medical Center inLake Wales, Florida from Community Health Systems for $100 million.[463][464][465] On September 1, AdventHealth took over themanagement of the hospitals[466] and they were renamed AdventHealth Heart of Florida and AdventHealth Lake Wales.[464]In early September, it also purchased from Community Health System afreestanding emergency department inWinter Garden, Florida for $9.6 million.[467][468]On August 6, AdventHealth announced that it would acquire two family medicine clinics inCopperas Cove, Texas andLampasas, Texas. On September 1, the two clinics officially became part of AdventHealth.[469][470]
On October 2, 2020, AdventHealth acquired twelve Exodus Women's Center medical offices in Hillsborough County and Polk County. As well as its administrative office in Tampa.[471][472]On December 15, AdventHealth bought AdventHealth Murray inChatsworth, Georgia from the Murray County Hospital Authority Board.[473][474]
On May 13, 2021, AdventHealth signed an agreement to buy Redmond Regional Medical Center and its businesses, physician clinic operations, outpatient services and equity interests inRome, Georgia fromHCA Healthcare for $635 million.[475][476] It was the last hospital innorthwest Georgia sold by HCA Healthcare.[477] On October 1, Redmond Regional Medical Center joined AdventHealth,[478][479] it was renamed AdventHealth Redmond in January 2022.[480]On August 2, 2021, AdventHealth purchased the 15-acreHoly Land Experience fromTrinity Broadcasting Network for $32 million.[481][482]
On November 22, 2024, AdventHealth signed a definitive agreement to purchase ShorePoint Health inSouthwest Florida from Community Health Systems for $265 million.[483][484][485]On March 1, 2025, ShorePoint Health became part of AdventHealth after being purchased for $260 million.[486][487] The price was lowered after ShorePoint Health gave up on its hospital inPunta Gorda, Florida and had it closed due to damage fromHurricane Helene andHurricane Milton.[488][489] It is unclear if the hospital network will have the medical facility repaired.[490]
On April 7, 2025, AdventHealth purchased the medical office building Upshot Medical Center for $60 million.[491][492]In early July, AdventHealth purchased Bond Clinic,[493][494][495] who they had a partnership with since early October 2021.[496]
