Adrian Holmes (born March 31, 1974) is a Canadian actor who is known for his role as Nick Barron on the crime drama television series19-2 (2014–17), for which he won aCanadian Screen Award for Best Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role.[2] He is also known for playing Philip Banks onBel-Air[3][4] andRobert April onStar Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Early life

Holmes was born toBarbadian parents inWrexham, Wales,[5] and moved with his family toVancouver, Canada, when he was five.[1] He studied nursing atLangara College, in part to appease his mother, who felt he needed a backup plan if his acting career was unsuccessful.[6] He attended Queen Elizabeth Senior Secondary inSurrey.

Holmes has had a long career, but is best known for his television roles, such as Basqat onSmallville, Marcus Mitchell onTrue Justice and Frank Pike onArrow.[6] His most notable role is Nick Barron in the English Language version of19-2 onBravo,[5][6] which garnered him aCanadian Screen Award for Best Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role in 2017.[2] His film work includesRed Riding Hood,[1]Elysium[5] andThe Cabin in the Woods.[5]In 2021 Adrian was cast as Uncle Phil in the showBel-Air, a reboot turned series drama ofThe Fresh Prince of Bel Air.[4]Will Smith gave him the stamp of approval. He has recently been cast as the first live-action version ofRobert April, the first captain of the USSEnterprise, inStar Trek: Strange New Worlds.
