Adraskan (Pashto: ادرسکن) is a historical town in westernAfghanistan near theHarut River.
It was mentioned in 13th and 14th century geographies as one of four prominent towns in the district of Shindand, the Green Place, which, is still calledShindand (Pashto equivalent of Green Field/ Blue Dam). Now the town is the center ofAdraskan District inHerat Province,Afghanistan. It is located on33°38′33″N62°16′02″E / 33.6425°N 62.2672°E /33.6425; 62.2672 at 1343 m altitude. The mainKandahar–Herat Highway passes through the town.
During theSoviet–Afghan War, the 68th Guards Separate Engineer Battalion,5th Guards Motor Rifle Division,40th Army, appears to have been located here.
With an influence from the local steppe climate, Adraskan features acold semi-arid climate (BSk) under theKöppen climate classification. The average temperature in Adraskan is 14.2 °C, while the annual precipitation averages 216 mm.
