Adnan Yaakob (Jawi: عدنان بن حاج يعقوب; born 18 April 1950) is a Malaysian politician and teacher who served as the 13thMenteri Besar of Pahang from May 1999 to May 2018 and Member of thePahang State Legislative Assembly (MLA) forPelangai from August 1986 to November 2022. He is a member and was the State Chairman ofPahang and Division Chief ofBentong of theUnited Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of theBarisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He is the longest-serving Menteri Besar of Pahang and Pelangai MLA, serving in both positions for 19 years and 36 years respectively.[1]
Born and raised inBentong,Pahang, Adnan graduated from secondary school and became a teacher in 1969. He then attended theUniversity of Malaya from 1972 and graduated in 1975. He studied for hisDiploma of Education until 1977 before enrolling at theInternational Islamic University Malaysia to study law.
Adnan never completed his law studies, having dropped out to join full-time politics.[2] He contested and won thePahang State Legislative Assembly seat inPelangai during the1986 state election. He was elected UMNO division chief in Bentong in 1987.
In 1999, Adnan was appointed the Menteri Besar of Pahang, succeedingMohd Khalil Yaakob.[3] He was taken over byWan Rosdy Wan Ismail as the Menteri Besar.
Adnan is married to Junaini Kassim and the couple have four children.
