Adam Castillejo (born 1979 or 1980), also known as "The London Patient",[1] is the second person known to have been cured ofHIV infection.[3][4][5] Castillejo, who is British-Venezuelan[6] and has mixed European ancestry, lives in London. He has previously worked as a chef[7] and is now a motivational speaker.
Diagnosed in 2003, his body became resistant to HIV infection after receiving abone marrow transplant in 2016[8] to treatHodgkin's lymphoma. The German donor carried theCCR5-Δ32 mutation which gives resistance from HIV infection.[9] He was treated by ProfessorRavindra Gupta.[5]
