InGreek mythology,Achaeus orAchaios (/əˈkəs/;Ancient Greek: ἈχαιόςAkhaiós) was a son ofXuthus andCreusa, and the brother ofIon as well as the grandson ofHellen.[1] According toPausanias, he was the father ofArchander andArchiteles, who travelled fromPhthiotis to Argos and each married daughters ofDanaus.[2]

Mythology

TheAchaeans regarded him as the author of their race, and derived from him their own name as well as that of Achaia, which was formerly called Aegialus. When his uncleAeolus inThessaly, whence he himself had come toPeloponnesus, died, he went there and made himself master ofPhthiotis, which now also received from him the name of Achaia.[3]
