Abul Hayat (Bengali pronunciation:[ãbulɦāẏt] born 7 September 1944)[1] is a Bangladeshi actor. He is also a writer, civil engineer and director.[2] He earnedBangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for the filmDaruchini Dwip (2007) and was awardedEkushey Padak for his acting in 2015 by theGovernment of Bangladesh.[3] He portrayed theMisir Ali character in the television film,Onno Bhuboner Cheleta.[1]
Hayat completed his bachelor's in civil engineering fromBangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).[4]
Hayat was born on September 7, 1944, inMurshidabad, located in what is now known asWest Bengal in India, to aMuslim family. He and his family later move toChittagong in what was thenEast Pakistan due to his father's job transfer.[5] He was an executive engineer ofDhaka WASA.[6] Later, in 1978, he moved toLibya and worked there till 1981. He returned toBangladesh in 1981 and started working in private job resigning from his government service.
Hayat acted in over 1000 television dramas.[6] His debut rule in television was inOedipus in 1969,[7] and his debut film wasTitash Ekti Nadir Naam, a joint-venture film ofIndia andBangladesh released in 1973.[8] He playedShakib Khan's father inSohanur Rahman Sohan's romanceAnanta Bhalobasha in 1999, which marked Khan's on-screen debut. He is the founder member of the theatre groupNagorik Natya Sampradaya.[9]
As of February 2015, Hayat has written 28 books in total. He wrote his first bookTrishnar Shanti in 1989.[2]
Hayat is married to Shirin Hayat since 4 February 1970.[10] Together they have two daughters,Bipasha Hayat and Natasha Hayat, are actresses.[11] His sons-in-lawTauquir Ahmed andShahed Sharif Khan are actors too.[12]
