Abid Qaiyum Suleri (born 9 September 1969) is a Pakistani social policy analyst anddevelopment practitioner with a PhD inFood Security fromUniversity of Greenwich, UK. He has been the Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute since 2007.[1] Suleri gives policy advice and serves on various policy forums/advisory boards at national, regional, and international levels. Currently he is a member of thePrime Minister's Economic Advisory Council;[2][3] member of the National Advisory Committee ofPlanning Commission of Pakistan;[4] and of Trade Policy Advisory Committee,[5]Government of Pakistan. He serves on Board of Studies of various universities and also a member ofGovernment of Punjab Vice Chancellor's search committee for Agricultural Universities inPunjab.[1]
He has also served as Member of Finance Minister's Special Task Force on Effectiveness ofSocial Safety Nets;[6] member Board of Management ofPakistan State Oil (PSO), and chaired Board Audit and Finance Committee of PSO from 2010 to 2012;[7][8][9] memberLahore High Court'sClimate Change Commission formed for effective implementation of Climate Change Policy;[10] served on National Advisory Committee ofUSAID funded Pakistan Strategic Support Program;[11] and onIslamabad Environment Commission, a commission constituted byIslamabad High Court to prevent further destruction and degradation of the environment ofIslamabad.[12]
He has researched issues such as resilient livelihoods,[16][17][18] food insecurity,[19][20][21][22][23][24] regional trade,[25][26][27]CPEC,[28] and political economy of development.[15][29] His other research interests include natural resources management,[30] climate change, institutional reforms,[31] and non-traditional security issues.[32]
