Abdon Pamich (Italian pronunciation:[ˈabdomˈpaːmitʃ]; born 3 October 1933) is a former Italianrace walker. He competed in therace walking event at the1956,1960,1964,1968 and1972 Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 1960 and a gold in 1964.[1] Pamich was theOlympic flag bearer forItaly in 1972.

Early life

Abdon Pamich was born in Fiume (present-dayRijeka, Croatia) on 3 October 1933, when the city wasunder Italian jurisdiction.[2] Together with his older brother, heleft Rijeka for Italy on 24 September 1947, joining his father who had emigrated earlier and settling inGenoa.[3]

On 16 October 1960, Pamich set aworld record over 50 km at 4:03:02 inPonte San Pietro. Later he was inducted into theFIDAL Hall of Fame.[4]

He wasEuropean champion in1962 and1966 and gold at theMediterranean Games in1959,1963 and1971.[3]
