Head of Lindores Abbey in Fife, Scotland

TheAbbot of Lindores (laterCommendator of Lindores) was the head of theTironensian monastic community and lands ofLindores Abbey inFife (the nearby town ofNewburgh was created by and belonged to the abbey). The position was created when the abbey was founded some time between 1190 and 1191 by KingWilliam the Lion's brotherPrince David,Earl of Huntingdon, andLord of Garioch.
