Abbassus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ancient town of Phrygia

Abbassus orAmbasum (Latin: Abbassus;[1]Ἄμβασον[2]), was an ancient town ofPhrygia, on the frontiers of theTolistoboii, inGalatia.[3] It is, perhaps, the same as theAlamassus reported by ofHierocles,[4] and theAmadasse whose bishops attended early church councils. The editors of theBarrington Atlas of the Greek and Roman World note that its probable location is nearSynnada,[5] however its precise location is not known.
