TheAbaganars are (Khalkha-Mongolian:Авга нар/Avga nar;simplified Chinese:阿巴哈纳尔部;traditional Chinese:阿巴哈納爾部) aSouthern Mongolian sub-ethnic group inAbag Banner,Inner Mongolia of China.
The ethnonyms "Abaganar" and "Abaga" translated fromMongolian language means paternal uncle. According to G. Sukhbaatar, these ethnonyms goes deep into history, right up to theXianbei. L. Bazin was the first to propose such an interpretation, comparing the Xianbei aimak Afugan with Abagas.[1]
The Abaganars andAbagas appeared in the 13th century from the people granted byGenghis Khan to his brotherBelgutei. Some of them mixed not only withMongol-speaking tribes -Oirats,Khalkhas,Buryats,Inner Mongols andKalmyks, but also became part of theTurkmens,Telengits andEvenks.[2]
