Ababil (Arabic:أبابيل,romanizedabābīl) refers to the miraculous birds inIslamic belief mentioned inSurah Al-Fil of theQuran that protected theKaaba inMecca from theAksumite elephant army ofAbraha, then self-styled governor ofHimyar, by dropping small clay stones on them as they approached.[1] Muslims believe the event occurred in 570 CE, the year that the Islamic prophetMuhammad was born.[2][3]
