AVFoundation is amultimedia framework withAPIs inObjective-C andSwift, which provides high-level services for working with time-basedaudiovisual media onAppleDarwin-basedoperating systems:iOS,macOS,tvOS, andwatchOS.[1] It was first introduced iniOS 4[2][3] and has seen significant changes iniOS 5 andiOS 6. Starting withMac OS X Lion, it is now the default media framework for themacOS platform.
As a component of AVFoundation, AVKit is anAPI that comes withOS X Mavericks 10.9+ and can be used withXcode 5.0+ for developingmedia player software for Mac.
The AVKitsoftware framework is replacingQTKit which wasdeprecated inOS X Mavericks, and was discontinued with the release ofmacOS Catalina.
