Akkineni Sreekar Prasad is an Indianfilm editor known for his works acrossHindi,Malayalam,Tamil,Telugu andAssamese language films.[1] In a career spanning more than 35 years, he has edited over 600 films.[2] He is a recipient of nineNational Film Awards including seven wins forBest Editing which is a record in that category. He also won fiveKerala State Film Awards, twoAndhra Pradesh stateNandi Awards, and fourFilmfare Awards among others.
He was included in theLimca Book of Records 'People of the Year - 2013' list for his contribution toIndian cinema in several languages.[3][4] Prasad also holds the record for "films edited in most number of languages" in Limca Book of Records. He has edited films from 17 languages so far.[5]
Sreekar Prasad was born into aTelugu family inMadras to film editor and director Akkineni Sanjeevi, the younger brother ofTelugu film doyenL. V. Prasad.[6][7] His family hails from the village ofSomavarappadu nearEluru inAndhra Pradesh.[8][9][10][11] His father had five siblings — four brothers and a sister.Akkineni Ramesh Prasad, son of L. V. Prasad is his cousin.K. B. Tilak, independence activist andfilmmaker is also a cousin of his — the son of his paternal aunt.[6]
His son is Akshay Akkineni, director ofPizza. Akshay is married to P. S. Keerthana, daughter of actorsR. Parthiban andSeetha.[12] Sreekar was the editor of Keerthana's star vehicleKannathil Muthamittal, which earned her theNational Film Award for Best Child Artist in 2002.
Sreekar Prasad was a graduate ofliterature fromUniversity of Madras. He learned the art offilm editing from his father inTelugu cinemas.[13] Though he started out with Telugu language films, he rose to national acclaim throughTamil,Malayalam, andHindi films. He has won theNational Film Award for Best Editing seven times and oneSpecial Jury Award, throughout a career spanning over two decades.[14]
