Spring – The Venetiandukes change sides again, submitting to KingPepin, under the authority of his fatherCharlemagne, who then proceeds to takeVenice. EmperorNikephoros I sends aByzantine fleet toDalmatia, prompting Pepin to withdraw to the mainland. Alegate is dispatched to Venice, where he deposes theturncoat dukes, before continuing on toAachen, to negotiate a peace with Charlemagne. Charlemagne recognisesByzantine dominance over Venice and Dalmatia in theAdriatic Sea.
