798 Ruth is aminor planet orbiting theSun that was discovered by the German astronomerMax Wolf on 21 November 1914. It may have been named after the biblical characterRuth.[4] Thismain belt asteroid has anorbital period of5.23 years and is orbiting at a distance of3.0 AU from the Sun with aneccentricity (ovalness) of 0.036. Theorbital plane is tilted by 9.2° from theplane of the ecliptic.[2]

This is a member of the dynamicEos family of asteroids that most likely formed as the result of a collisional breakup of a parent body.[5] It is anM-type (metallic) asteroid that displays a significant component of the mineralolivine in itsspectrum.[3] 798 Ruth spans43.19±2.9 km and rotates on its axis once every8.55 h.[2]
