The69thGolden Globe Awards, honoring the best infilm andtelevision of 2011, were broadcast live from theBeverly Hilton Hotel inBeverly Hills, California on January 15, 2012, byNBC. The host wasRicky Gervais, for the third consecutive year.[1] The musical theme for the year was composed byYoshiki, leader of the Japanese bandX Japan.[2] The nominations were announced byWoody Harrelson,Sofía Vergara,Gerard Butler andRashida Jones on December 15, 2011.[3] Multiple winners for the night included the silent filmThe Artist which won three awards andThe Descendants winning two awards. Freshman television seriesHomeland also won two awards.[4][5]
