EmperorHeraclius appointsCyrus, patriarch ofAlexandria, with power to act as viceroy (dioikesis) ofEgypt. He begins a 10-year persecution against the non-Chalcedonian Coptic Christians.

Battle of Wogastisburg: TheSlavs under KingSamo defeat theAustrasian Franks, in a three-day battle nearTrenčín (modernSlovakia). KingDagobert I is forced to retreat; the Franks with their allies are slaughtered. Samo invadesThuringia and undertakeslooting raids.^[1]

Theembassy succeeds in freeing 80,000 men and women, who are safely returned toChina.
Tai Zong establishes a newDaoist abbey, out of gratitude for Daoist priests who had apparently cured thecrown prince of an illness.
