6-(2-Aminopropyl)-1-benzothiophene (6-APBT) is amonoamine releasing agent andserotonin receptor agonist of theamphetamine andbenzothiophene families.[1][2] It is related toMDA and other MDAbioisosteres like thebenzofurans.[1][2]

The drug acts as apotent and well-balancedserotonin–norepinephrine–dopamine releasing agent (SNDRA) andfull agonist of the serotonin5-HT2 receptors.[2] 6-APBT does notincrease locomotor activity in rodents and hence does not appear to havestimulant-like effects.[2] However, it does produce thehead-twitch response, a behavioral proxy ofpsychedelic effects, and hence may havehallucinogenic effects.[2] The drug is a potentmonoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), specifically ofmonoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) (IC50Tooltip half-maximal inhibitory concentration = 600 nM).[3]

6-APBT was first described in thescientific literature by 2020.[1][2]
