The5th Lithuanian Vanguard Regiment (Polish:5 Pułk Litewski Przedniej Straży) was a military unit of theGrand Duchy of Lithuania. The full name was5th Lithuanian Advance Guard Regiment ofStanisław Byszewski [pl].[1]
Formed in 1733 by gathering all cavalry units ofJózef Potocki, theVoivode ofKievPotocki family, mostly composed ofTatars.[2][1]
This regiment was leased to theSaxon army during the reign ofWettin dynasty[2] and continuously fought in theWar of Polish Succession (1734-1738),War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748) and theSeven Years' War (1756-1763).[3]
In 1764, it was summoned by theSejm of 1764 to return to Lithuania.
The regiment fought against the Wettin dynasty's supporters.
The regiment was stationed inSuchowola (1772-1789),Krynki (1789-1792 September) andVeliuona (1792 October and onwards).[1][3]
