553 Kundry is anS-type asteroid[1] belonging to theFlora family in theMain Belt. Its rotation period is 12.605 hours[2].

Like a number of asteroids discovered byMax Wolf around this time (1904), it is named after a female character in opera, in this case fromRichard Wagner'sParsifal.
