51 Market Street, also known as theWilliam and Rosamond Clark House,[2] is a historic house located betweenMadison and Monroe Streets inlower Manhattan inNew York City. The two-storygambrelled house was built in 1824–25 in thelate Federal style at a time when theLower East Side was an affluent residential neighborhood. The original owner was apparently William Clark, a grocer. The upper two stories were added late in the 19th century.[2] The house has been described in theAIA Guide to New York City as a "superb" example of the Federal style.[3][4]
51 Market Street was designated aNew York City landmark in 1965,[2] and was added to theNational Register of Historic Places in 1977.
