429 Lotis is a largeMain beltasteroid. It is classified as a probableC-type asteroid and is likely composed of primitivecarbonaceous materials. This object was discovered byAuguste Charlois on 23 November 1897 inNice.

In 2002, the asteroid was detected by radar from theArecibo Observatory at a distance of 1.31 AU. The resulting data yielded an effective diameter of70 ± 10 km.[4]
