Themeridian 40° east ofGreenwich is a line oflongitude[1] that extends from theNorth Pole across theArctic Ocean,Europe,Asia,Africa, theIndian Ocean, theSouthern Ocean, andAntarctica to theSouth Pole. The meridian is used in some contexts to delineate Europe or what is associated with the continent of Europe as an easternmost limit, e.g. to qualify for membership of theEuropean Broadcasting Union.
