The36th Goya Awards ceremony, presented by theAcademy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AACCE), honoured the best in Spanish films of 2021 and took place at thePalau de les Arts Reina Sofía inValencia on 12 February 2022.[2] The ceremony was broadcast byRTVE onLa1,TVE Internacional,RTVE Play andRNE.[3]
The shortlists for every category were unveiled on early November, with 160 films being selected to compete. Nominations were read by actorsNathalie Poza andJosé Coronado on 29 November 2021.[4][5]The Good Boss received the most nominations with a record-breaking twenty. It was followed byMaixabel, with fourteen nominations, andParallel Mothers, with eight.[6]
The Good Boss won six awards includingBest Film,Best Director forFernando León de Aranoa,Best Actor forJavier Bardem andBest Original Screenplay.[7]
A new non competitive award that honors personalities from international cinema was introduced for the first time. The first honoree was Australian actressCate Blanchett.[8]The gala was directed byDani de la Torre and the screenplay was penned by Bárbara Alpuente,Ángela Armero [es],Nuria Roca and Alberto López.[9] It featured performances byJoaquín Sabina,Leiva,C. Tangana andLuz Casal.[9] It was the first time that the ceremony was held in Valencia.
