3-Pyrrolylpropylamine, also known asα-methyl-3-pyrrolylethylamine, is achemical compound of thearylalkylamine family.[1] It is theanalogue of theserotonergic psychedelicα-methyltryptamine (AMT) in which thebenzene component of theindolering has been removed.[1]
In contrast totryptamines like AMT, 3-pyrrolylpropylamine does not bind to theserotonin5-HT1A or5-HT2A receptors (Ki = >10,000 nM).[1] These findings suggest that the benzene part of the indole ring is required for significant binding toserotonin receptors and by extensionpsychedelic activity.[1] The activities of 3-pyrrolylpropylamine at othertargets, such as themonoamine transporters, were not reported.[1]
3-Pyrrolylpropylamine was first described in thescientific literature by at least 1990.[1]
