2go Interactive (Pty) Ltd is a South African company which operates a mobilesocial networking app. The company is based inCape Town,South Africa.

History

[edit]

2go was created in 2007 inJohannesburg, South Africa, by a group ofUniversity of Witwatersrand computer science students. The service was originally developed as a students-only mobile website intended to function as a communication tool for students.[1] 2go eventually[when?] moved away from the students-only model and targeted developing markets in Africa such as Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.[1][2]

By 2018, the app had lost most of its users with suggestions its failure to adapt to the growth of Android was to blame.[3]

Devoted user since 2go was released in 2007.2go took over the social network with great performance, low rates, accessibility. In time, 2go had a full segment of skins and the ability to add users from rooms without providing personal information rivaled even the likes of Mxit, who at the time, dominated the social media. 2go was turning into a hotspot for every student. However, in 2018 with the progression of video calls, 2go started to fall behind and lost most of it's users but still managed to keep a few devoted users. In 2020 the 2go support team unofficially abandoned 2go. They started charging people more for less, fail to fix issues, fail to respond to user reports included banning accounts since it was easier than fixing it. In 2024 the 2go support team became silent, the app is still active with constant verifications required, which costs money but there is no support left. Issues being reported can take weeks and sometimes months before you are contacted. 2025, nothing more than a memory. Active users have dropped to a near halt with only the same users logging in and out. 2go failed because their support team failed.
