286 Iclea is a large main-belt asteroid.[4] It was discovered by Austrian astronomerJohann Palisa on 3 August 1889 inVienna, and named for the heroine ofCamille Flammarion's astronomical romanceUranie.[5][6] This object is orbiting the Sun at a distance of3.19 AU with aperiod of 5.711 years and anorbital eccentricity (ovalness) of 0.029. Theorbital plane is tilted at an angle of 17.9° to theplane of the ecliptic.[1]

This asteroid has a classification of CX in theTholen taxonomy, indicating a generallycarbonaceous composition.[1]Infrared measurements indicate a cross-sectional diameter of approximately 94.3 km.[2]Photometric observations of this asteroid in 2001 provided alight curve that was used to derive a synodic rotation period of 15.365±0.002 hours with anamplitude of 0.15 magnitude.[3]
