254 Augusta is amain-beltasteroid, discovered on 31 March 1886 by astronomerJohann Palisa atVienna Observatory, Austria. The stonyS-type asteroid measures about 12 kilometers in diameter.[1] It is the first-numbered member of theAugusta family, after which the smallAsteroid family and subgroup of the main-belt has been named. Augusta was named after the German–Austrian writerAuguste von Littrow (1819–1890), widow of astronomerCarl Ludwig von Littrow, who was a former director of the Vienna Observatory.[3]
