235 Carolina is a sizeableMain beltasteroid. It was discovered by Austrian astronomerJohann Palisa on 28 November 1883 inVienna, and was named afterCaroline Island, now part ofKiribati in thePacific Ocean. This asteroid is orbiting theSun at a distance of2.88 AU with aperiod of 4.89 yr and aneccentricity (ovalness) of 0.06. Theorbital plane is tilted at an angle of 9.0° to theplane of the ecliptic.[2]

Photometric data collected during 2007 were used to construct alight curve that demonstrated arotation period of17.1600±0.0004 h with a brightness variation of0.30±0.02 inmagnitude.[3][4] It is a stonyS-type asteroid.
