DuringFriday prayers on 20 October 2017, a gunman entered Imam Zaman, aShia mosque in Kabul.[1][2] He opened fire, then detonated a bomb - killing about 40 people.[1][2]
During Friday prayers on the same day, a suicide bomberdetonated hisexplosives in aSunni mosque in Ghor Province, killing at least 20 people.[1][2]
Islamic State – Khorasan Province claimed responsibility for the Kabul attack.[2]
In 2017,insurgents carried out many attacks in Afghanistan, including several in October.[2] Major attacks included those whichkilled over 70 people inGardez andGhazni on 17 October and a double suicide bombing whichkilled 43 Afghan soldiers inKandahar Province on 19 October.[2]
