The2028 Northern Territory general election will be held on 22 August 2028 to elect all 25 members of theLegislative Assembly in theunicameralNorthern Territory Parliament. Members will be elected usingfull preferentialinstant-runoff voting insingle memberelectoral divisions. The election will be conducted by theNorthern Territory Electoral Commission (NTEC).
Theincumbentcentre-rightCountry Liberalgovernment, led byChief MinisterLia Finocchiaro, will be seeking to win a second consecutive term in government. They will be challenged by theLaboropposition, led byOpposition LeaderSelena Uibo.
Both Finocchiaro (who is ofItalian descent) and Uibo (who is ofAboriginal,Estonian,Irish andSouth African descent) come from non-Anglo-Celtic backgrounds, making it the first Northern Territory election in which both leaders have non-Anglo-Celtic heritage and the first in Australian history which both leaders are women of non-Anglo-Celtic descent. Additionally, should Uibo be elected, she would become the first Aboriginal woman to become an Australian head of government and the first Aboriginal Labor head of government.
