The following is a list of events of the year2025 in the United States.

Following hiselection victory in November 2024,Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47thPresident of the United States and beganhis second, nonconsecutive term on January 20. The beginning of his term saw him extensivelyuse executive orders and give increased authority toElon Musk through theDepartment of Government Efficiency, leading tomass layoffs of the federal workforce and attempts to eliminate agencies such asUSAID.[1] These policies have drawn dozens of lawsuits that have challenged their legality.[2] Trump's return to the presidency also saw the US increase enforcement againstillegal immigration through the usage ofImmigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as well as deportations, a general retreat from corporate America promotingdiversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives,[3]increased support for Israel in the Gaza war in addition todirect airstrikes against Iran in June andfluctuating but high increases on tariffs across some of America's trading partners.[4] The Trump Administration worked for negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire-hostage deal.A formalized Gaza ceasefire-hostage deal was reached between Israel and Hamas.

In January, southern California and particularlyGreater Los Angeles experiencedwidespread wildfires, and theTexas Hill Country experienceddevastating floods in July. American news media has paid significantly more attention to aviation accidents, both within American borders as well asone in India. Furthermore, March witnessed ablizzard spread across the US and Canada, and under both the Biden administration and Trump'sHHS secretaryRobert F. Kennedy Jr., American companies, politics and culture have paid increasing attention tofood coloring as part of theMake America Healthy Again movement.

The number ofexecutions in 2025 became the highest number to be carried out in the United States in 16 years.[5]

April 2: Trump announces a raft of worldwide tariff
Though Trump claimed in early December 2025—before November numbers were released—that "inflation has stopped", theconsumer price index (CPI) began increasing in the months following his April 2025 announcement of tariffs.[378]
Though Trump on December 9, 2025 rated his economy as "A+++++", the unemployment rate had increased during his second term.[379]
Upon imposing the highest U.S. tariffs since the Great Depression (called "Liberation Day" in April 2025), Trump claimed that "jobs and factories will come roaring back". However, manufacturing employment declined every month for the rest of the year.[380]
Trump asserted tariffs on Chinese goods in February and April 2025, igniting a trade war that injected uncertainty as China turned to other sources.[381]
In January 2026, the US dollar reached its lowest point in four years.[382] A lower dollar makes US goods less expensive abroad, but it also makes foreign products more expensive in the US and thus tends to increase inflation.[383]
April 5: Mass protests are held across the country against President Trump and Elon Musk.
April 25: Former Congressman George Santos is sentenced to prison for wire fraud and identity theft and is fined nearly $374,000.
