Jannik Sinner defeated two-time defending championCarlos Alcaraz[1] in the final, 4–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the2025 Wimbledon Championships.[2][3] It was his firstWimbledon title and fourthmajor title overall.[4] With the win, Sinner ended Alcaraz's undefeated 5–0 record in major finals,[4] and became the first Italian to win a Wimbledon singles title.[5]
The final marked the third time in a single season that the ATP No. 1 and No. 2 players contested a major singles final, the first such instance since theATP rankings were first published in 1973. At 23 years and 318 days old, Sinner was the second-youngest player (afterJim Courier at 22 years, 308 days old) to reach the final at all four majors,[6] and the youngest to reach four consecutive major finals in theOpen Era.[7] Alcaraz was the tenth man in the Open Era to reach three consecutive Wimbledon finals, and the first player born in 1990 or later to do so.[8] Sinner and Alcaraz joinedRoger Federer andRafael Nadal as the only men's pair to contest both theFrench Open and Wimbledon finals in the same season.[9]
With his third round win,Novak Djokovic recorded his 100th match win at Wimbledon and became the second man to record 100 or more wins at two majors (after Federer), in addition to the French Open.[10] Djokovic made his 19th career third round appearance and 14th semifinal appearance at Wimbledon, the most by any man in the Open Era.[11][12] His defeat to Sinner in the semifinals marked the first time since2017 that Djokovic did not reach the final, ending a streak of six consecutive final appearances.[13] It also marked the first instance where none of the "Big Four" were present in a Wimbledon final since2002.[14]
13 out of the 32 seeds lost in the first round, the most to do so at Wimbledon in the Open Era,[15] and tied the record set for any major at the2004 Australian Open.[16]
The event marked the final professional appearance of former world No. 9Fabio Fognini. He lost in the first round to Alcaraz.[17]
