American state elections

In Virginia, general elections are scheduled to take place on November 4, 2025. Primary elections took place on June 17, 2025, alongside special elections held throughout the year. The in-personearly voting period runs from September 19 to November 1, 2025.[1]

On January 7, 2025, special elections were held forthe 32nd Senate district,the 10th Senate district, andthe 26th House of Delegates district.[2]

10th Senate district

FollowingJohn McGuire's election toVirginia's 5th congressional district, a special election was held to replace his seat forVirginia's 10th Senate district.[3] A Republicanprimary election was held on December 13, 2024.[4]

FollowingKannan Srinivasan's victory in the Democratic primary special election forVirginia's 32nd Senate district, a special election was held to replace his seat forVirginia's 26th House of Delegates district. Republican and Democratic primary elections were held on November 18, 2024 and November 23, 2024, respectively.[6]

Former U.S. RepresentativeAbigail Spanberger is the Democratic nominee and Lieutenant GovernorWinsome Earle-Sears is the Republican nominee.[9]

Democratic Party primary elections took place on June 17, 2025.[10]State SenatorGhazala Hashmi is the Democratic nominee and former radio host John Reid is the Republican nominee.[11][12]

House of Delegates

All 100 seats in theVirginia House of Delegates are up for election. The chamber is currently controlled by the Democratic Party, holding a majority of two seats.[15] Primary elections took place on June 17, 2025.[10]

TheVirginia Senate is not up for election until 2027.
