Men's singles trophy Carlos Alcaraz defeated defending championJannik Sinner [ 1] in the final, 6–2, 3–6, 6–1, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the2025 US Open .[ 2] [ 3] It was his secondUS Open title and sixthmajor title overall. By winning the title, Alcaraz regained theworld No. 1 singles ranking from Sinner.[ 4] Alcaraz was the youngest man to win a sixth major title sinceBjörn Borg .[ 5] Sinner was the fourth (and youngest) man in theOpen Era to reach all four major finals in a season (afterRod Laver ,Roger Federer , andNovak Djokovic ), and the youngest in the Open Era to reach five consecutive major finals.Alcaraz and Sinner became the first pair of men's singles players in the Open Era to contest three major finals in the same year.[ 6]
At 38 years, 103 days of age, Djokovic was the oldest man to reach all four major semifinals in a season.[ 7] With his third-round win, Djokovic recorded his 192nd career match win athardcourt majors, surpassing Federer's record.[ 8] With his semifinal loss to Alcaraz, this marked only the third year since 2007 where Djokovic did not contest a major final (after 2009 and 2017), and the first year since 2002 that none ofBig Three contested a major final.[ 9]
Coleman Wong became the first player from Hong Kong to qualify for a men's singles major in the Open Era, and was the first to win a major singles match sinceIp Koon Hung andEdwin Tsai at the1954 Wimbledon Championships —when Hong Kong was aBritish colony .[ 10] [ 11] A record-equaling five qualifiers (Wong,Leandro Riedi ,Jan-Lennard Struff ,Ugo Blanchet , andJérôme Kym ) reached the third round, tying the tournament's Open Era record along with1984 and2021 .[ 12] [ 13] Ranked No. 435, Riedi was the lowest-ranked player to reach the fourth round of a major sinceRichard Krajicek at the2002 Wimbledon Championships .[ 14] This marked the first time since 2010 thatGrigor Dimitrov did not participate at a major, ending his streak of 58 consecutive major appearances.[ 15]
