QualifierValentin Vacherot defeatedArthur Rinderknech in the final, 4–6, 6–3, 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the2025 Shanghai Masters.^[1] It was his first careerATP Tour title, and he defeated five seeded opponents consecutively en route. Vacherot was the first Monégasque player to win a tour singles title, the firstunseeded champion at theShanghai Masters, and the lowest-rankedATP Masters 1000 champion (ranked No. 204). Vacherot was the third qualifier (afterRoberto Carretero andAlbert Portas at the1996 and2001 Hamburg Masters, respectively) to win aMasters 1000 title,^[2][3] and the fifth player overall to win a Masters 1000 as their first tour-level title.^[4][5]

For the first time in the tournament's history, two unseeded players contested the final, and this was only the third all-unseeded Masters 1000 final (after the 1996 Hamburg Masters and the2003 Paris Masters).^[6] Additionally, as Vacherot and Rinderknech are first cousins, they were the first pair of family members to contest an ATP Tour final since brothersJohn andPatrick McEnroe at the 1991 Chicago Open.^{[citation needed]}

At38 years, 140 days old,Novak Djokovic reached a record 80th Masters semifinal and extended his record as the oldest semifinalist (since the format's establishment in 1990).^[7] The second-round match between Djokovic (38 years, 134 days) andMarin Čilić (37 years, 5 days) was the oldest ATP 1000 singles match in terms of combined ages (75 years and 139 days) (since 1990).^[8]

Jannik Sinner was the defending champion,^[9] but retired in the third round againstTallon Griekspoor.^[10]
