The2025–26 La Liga, also known asLa Liga EA Sports[1][2] due to sponsorship reasons, is the 95th season ofLa Liga, Spain's top-flight football competition. It began on 15 August 2025 and will end on 24 May 2026. The match schedule was published on 1 July 2025.[3]Barcelona are the defending champions, having won their 28th title the previous season.

Early in the season, La Liga announced plans for a match betweenVillarreal and Barcelona, which was to be held on 20 December atHard Rock Stadium in theMiami metro area in theUnited States. This was to mark the first La Liga match ever to be played outside of Spain.[4] The match, initially moved out ofLa Cerámica, was moved back to Villarreal on 21 October, following protests from La Liga's teams and fans.[5]

Promotion and relegation (pre-season)

A total of twenty teams contest the league, including seventeen sides from the2024–25 season and three promoted from the2024–25 Segunda División. This includes the two top teams from the Segunda División, and the winners of thepromotion play-offs.

Teams relegated to Segunda División

The first team to be relegated from La Liga wereValladolid, after a 1–5 loss toReal Betis on 25 April 2025, after only a single season stay in the top tier. The second team to be relegated wasLas Palmas, after a 0–1 loss toSevilla on 14 May 2025, after two seasons in the top tier. The third and final team relegated to Segunda wasLeganés, afterEspanyol managed to survive by beating Las Palmas in the last matchday, after just one season in the top tier.

Teams promoted from Segunda División

On 25 May 2025,Levante became the first side to mathematically be promoted, assured of a return to the top flight after a three-year absence following a 3–2 victory againstBurgos.Elche became the second team to be promoted on the last day after defeatingDeportivo La Coruña 4–0, returning after a two-year absence. The final team promoted wasOviedo after overcomingMirandés 3–2 on aggregate in the promotion play-off final on 21 June to return to the top division after a twenty four-year absence.[6]
