The2024 U Sports football season began on August 23, 2024, with the defending championMontreal Carabins hosting theSherbrooke Vert et Or.[1] On the following day, fourAtlantic University Sport teams and sixOntario University Athletics teams opened their schedules on August 24, 2024.[2][3] TheCanada West conference began their season one week later on August 30.[4]

The conference championships were played on the weekend of November 9, 2024, and the season ended on November 23, 2024 with the59th Vanier Cup championship. The Vanier Cup game was held atRichardson Memorial Stadium inKingston, Ontario for the second consecutive year.[5][6] 27universityteams inCanada playedU Sports football, the highest level ofamateurCanadian football.[7]

Manitoba kicker Maya Turner became the first woman to be named an all-star in U Sports football when she was named to the Canada West all-star team. She made 14 of 18 field goal attempts for the team, and made all her conversions.[8]

Schedules

On December 14, 2023, theRSEQ released their schedule which featured no major changes from the2023 season, with five teams playing eight regular season games over ten weeks.[1] The regular season started on August 23, 2024, and ended on October 26, 2024. TheDunsmore Cup game is scheduled to be played on November 9, 2024.[1] TheOUA next announced their schedule on March 27, 2024, which featured 11 teams playing over nine weeks with the regular season ending October 19, 2024.[3] TheAUS announced their schedule on April 11, 2024, featuring five teams playing over ten weeks between August 24 and October 26, 2024.[2] On May 2, 2024,Canada West released their schedule with six teams playing eight games over nine weeks from August 30 to October 26, 2024.[4]

TheVanier Cup is played between the champions of theMitchell Bowl and theUteck Bowl, the national semi-final games. In 2024, according to the rotating schedule, the Québec ConferenceDunsmore Cup champion visited the Canada WestHardy Trophy winners for the Mitchell Bowl. TheYates Cup Ontario Conference champion visited the Atlantic Conference'sLoney Bowl winners for the Uteck Bowl.[5] These games were played on November 16, 2024, while the59th Vanier Cup was played on November 23, 2024.[5]
