The2024 Penn State Nittany Lions football team representedPennsylvania State University in theBig Ten Conference during the2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Nittany Lions were led by head coachJames Franklin[2] in his 11th year leading the program.
Their home stadium isBeaver Stadium inCollege Township, Pennsylvania, with a mailing address ofUniversity Park, Pennsylvania. The Penn State Nittany Lions football team drew an average home attendance of 108,379 in 2024.
Following a 44–7 win againstMaryland and aMichigan win overOhio State in the final week of the regular season, the Nittany Lions clinched their firstBig Ten Championship appearance since2016, which they lost to theOregon Ducks. However, Penn State still clinched its first ever appearance in theCollege Football Playoff, in which they defeated No. 11 seedSMU 38–10 in the first round at home, then the No. 3 seedBoise State 31–14 in theFiesta Bowl. They then faced No. 7 seedNotre Dame in theOrange Bowl for a spot in theCFP National Championship, but fell 27–24. The team concluded with a record of 13–3, making this Penn State's first ever 13-win season.
Penn State ranked No. 5 in the final rankings of both major polls, the program first top-five finish since the2005 season.

Penn State's season-opening game with West Virginia has resumed following a lightning delay that lasted two hours and 19 minutes. The contest atMilan Puskar Stadium was halted shortly after 2 p.m. with heavy rain and lightning hammering the Morgantown area. The game restarted at 4:23 p.m.
The Nittany Lions set a single-game record for total offense in the contest with 718 yards, breaking the record of 711 yards set in 1926 againstSusquehanna. The Lions also had 40 first downs, which beat the record of 38 set in 1962 againstWest Virginia.
