The2024 New York Yankees season was the 122nd season for theNew York Yankees franchise.

On September 7, the Yankees won their 82nd game of the season, thus extending their streak of winning seasons to 32 years (since1993). On September 18, the Yankees clinched apostseason berth for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.[2][3] On September 26, the Yankees clinched the American League East division with a win over theBaltimore Orioles. It was their third divisional title in the past six seasons, and their 21st divisional championship overall in franchise history. Additionally, it was their 59th postseason appearance, the most by a single team in Major League Baseball history.[4] They defeated theKansas City Royals in theAmerican League Division Series to advance to theAmerican League Championship Series (ALCS) for the fourth time in eight years. They beat theCleveland Guardians in the ALCS in five games to capture their first AL pennant since2009 and the 41st in franchise history.[5] They faced theLos Angeles Dodgers in the2024 World Series, losing in five games. This was the firstYankees–Dodgers World Series matchup since1981 and the 12th in Major League Baseball history.

This was the final season for longtime play-by-play radio announcerJohn Sterling, who was honored by the team on April 20th.[6] It also marked the only season superstar outfielderJuan Soto spent with the organization, after an offseason trade from the Padres to the Yankees, as Soto departed the club for theNew York Mets, the Yankees' crosstown rival.

Offseason

[edit]

The Yankees finished the2023 season 82–80, good enough for fourth place in the AL East. They looked to improve on that record in 2024 under the guide ofAaron Boone, who entered his seventh year as manager of the Yankees.
