The2024 season was theNew England Patriots' 55th in theNational Football League (NFL), their 65th overall, and their 23rd playing home games atGillette Stadium. This was their first year under a newde facto general manager, executive vice president of player personnelEliot Wolf, and their only season underhead coachJerod Mayo.

The Patriots matched their AFC-worst 4–13 record fromthe previous year, unable to improve upon it following a Week 17 loss to theLos Angeles Chargers. They started 1–6 while also losing 6 straight games for the first time since1993. The Patriots failed to end their four-yearAFC East title drought after a Week 12 loss to theMiami Dolphins dropping them to 3–9, guaranteeing their third losing season in a row and their fourth in five years. The Patriots were eliminated from playoff contention the following week with a loss to theIndianapolis Colts coupled with theHouston Texans beating theJacksonville Jaguars. After an upset win over theBuffalo Bills in Week 18, Jerod Mayo was fired after just one season.[1] That same win also eliminated their chance of obtaining the first overall pick in the2025 NFL draft.[2] In addition, after theNew York Jets defeated the Dolphins later that day, the Patriots finished in last place in theAFC East, the first time since both1999 and2000 the Patriots finished last in the AFC East in consecutive seasons.

This was the first season since1999 without long time head coachBill Belichick, as he and the Patriots mutually agreed to part ways on January 11.[3] A day later, linebacker coachJerod Mayo was hired as the 15th head coach in franchise history; Mayo had played with the team between2008 and2015, winningSuper Bowl XLIX with them. This was also the first season since2007 without special teams starMatthew Slater on the roster after he announced his retirement on February 20.
