Carlos Alcaraz defeatedAlexander Zverev in the final, 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the2024 French Open. It was his firstFrench Open title and thirdmajor title overall.[1] At 21 years and 21 days old, Alcaraz was the youngest man to win major titles on three different surfaces, having won the2022 US Open onhardcourts and2023 Wimbledon Championships ongrass.[2][3] He was the first French Open champion outside ofRafael Nadal orNovak Djokovic sinceStan Wawrinka in2015. Zverev was the first German to contest the final sinceMichael Stich in1996.[4]

Djokovic was the defending champion, but withdrew from his quarterfinal match due to a knee injury.[5] His third-round match againstLorenzo Musetti marked the latest finish in tournament history, ending at 3:07 a.m. local time.[6][7]Jannik Sinner attained theworld No. 1 singles ranking for the first time following the tournament, becoming the first Italian to claim a top singles spot.[8][9]

This marked the last major appearance of 14-time French Open champion and 22-time major champion Nadal; he lost to Zverev in the first round, endinghis storied career at the French Open with a 112–4 win-loss record. It was the only time in Nadal's career he lost in the first round at the French Open. Nadal was unseeded at a major for the first time since the2005 Australian Open while using a protected ranking to enter the main draw.[10][11][12] This tournament also marked the final major singles appearance of former world No. 1, two-time Olympic gold medalist,2016 finalist and three-time major championAndy Murray; he lost toStan Wawrinka in the first round.
